Selin Akdeniz

I am Selin Akdeniz. I was born in Aydın in 1989. My primary school teachers always had me sing folk songs. My passion for music began with singing folk songs, and my passion for writing lyrics started with the encouragement of my teacher who liked the first poem I wrote.

While studying German Language Teaching, I realized that music remained a lingering passion within me. I was teaching and translating on one hand, and the other, I was writing lyrics and composing music. I had accumulated so many words and notes inside me that when I found myself, they began to pour out. Songs became the most special way for me to express myself, and life led me into the compassionate arms of music.

I composed my first song for Ataturk. I had dozens of love songs, but I initially wanted to share lullabies to help children grow up with beautiful words. I felt responsible for the children who might hear their first beautiful words from my voice. I also wanted to publish sweet children’s songs so that children could listen, jump, and dance along. I wanted to be a catalyst for children to grow up with kind words and happiness. Later, I decided to release a love song album.

I want my songs to tell you about me who became a new person after discovering the music within me. That Selin, as gentle as a cat but protective, is hidden in my songs. My compassion, love, lack of love, fears, fearlessness, my cocoon, and my emergence from it are all embedded in my voice, lyrics, and music. I want to make my voice heard for the babies I wish to nurture with love, for women victimized by narcissists, to instil hope in those losing hope, to empower them, and to remind them of the existence of love.

My dear husband, Evren Akdeniz, has allowed my inner voice to become so free and beautiful that I wrote two songs on the album for him (Ah gözlerin and O salıncak).

“Ah Gozlerin” is such a sincere song where I push the limits of my voice in every line and octave, each carrying a distinct emotion.“
“O Salincak” is our awakening and rebirth song, describing our growth with the end of the art of ignoring and Pollyannaism.
I wrote the song “Tek Geceydi” for women who suffer from narcissistic abuse. If even one woman listens to my song and realizes the abuse, I would be so pleased.
“Bir Ay Olsam” portrays platonic love as naively as nostalgic songs
“Bir Ay Isigi”, is a song of unrequited love.
I selected “Bir Kis Gunu” as the concluding track of my album to infuse hope and happiness in those who feel sorrowful while listening to my album.

I enjoy creating songs in diverse styles, and you will continue to hear different styles of songs from me.
